Home Grown Hair!

Bad Hair Days—We’ve All Been There

Hair care is a multi-billion-dollar industry for a reason. Women (and men) keep buying more products, hoping for silky, thick, luxurious hair. But too often, they end up with the same frustrating results—more bad hair days.

At the risk of sounding “punny,” could it be that we’re not getting to the root of the problem? Those pretty little bottles may be packed with chemicals that don’t just fail to deliver results but could actually be harming your hair, skin, and overall health.

Research confirms it—many common hair care ingredients are endocrine disruptors, throwing hormones out of balance and leading to a host of health issues. Others are linked to skin irritation, respiratory problems, and even cancer.

But there’s good news! The right supplements and essential oils can help support healthy, vibrant hair—naturally. Keep reading to find out how!

How Essential Oils Can Help

  • Encourages hair growth and may help minimize hair loss
  • Reduces dry scalp
  • Encourages circulation to the scalp, which can lead to healthier, shiny hair
  • Helps to remove chlorine and other harmful chemicals that have built up on your hair
  • Helps to remove excess sebum that has hardened into plaque and built up on the scalp  (which can result in hair breakage and loss)
  • Makes your hair smell amazing!

How to apply hair serum

After towel drying your hair, lift a hand-full of hair, and spritz underneath, at the scalp. throughout your whole head. Massage in with the balls of your fingers (not your nails). Apply moderate pressure as you massage the oils into your scalp; this will encourage circulation as well. Repeat before bedtime.

While massaging your scalp, you can also lay on your bed, hanging your head over the edge to encourage circulation to the scalp (better yet, stand on your head for a couple of minutes each evening!). 🤪 And the room is going to smell amazing when you’re finished!

What’s Inside Shows up on the Outside

But, healthy hair starts with a healthy, balanced body. So make sure you’re eating nutritious, whole foods and drinking plenty of pure, clean water. Keep your body balanced with plenty of Vitamin D, B vitamins, and a good all around multivitamin like Young Living’s Master Formula. And using Young Living’s Sulfurzyme (with MSM) and Inner Beauty Collagen daily is a must (also great for nails)!

Bone Broth

Another wonderful thing you can do for your hair (as well as your joints, gut, brain, nail, and skin!) is to incorporate bone broth into your daily diet! Get my recipe HERE.

But what you put on your body is almost as important as what you put in it. So look for nutritious ways to nourish and protect your hair and scalp, and avoid harsh or toxic chemicals! Even chemicals which most people find acceptable, like chlorine from a swimming pool (which doesn’t wash out with a simple shampoo), can be very destructive to your hair and scalp.

Also, remember that other factors affect the health of your hair too. Things like sleep, overuse of alcohol, synthetic chemicals in certain hair products, smoking, prescription drugs, hairspray, etc. all effect your body and hair health.

PRO TIP: Using a silk pillowcase can also help prevent hair breakage while you sleep!

Start by selecting one of Young Living’s essential oil-infused shampoos or conditioners. You can also give your hair an extra boost by adding a few drops of appropriate essential oils to your hand before adding the conditioner to your hair. Rinse with cool water to close your cuticle and seal in the moisture. Then, make your own nourishing hair and scalp spray from the recipe below.

I’m Gonna Wash those Chemicals Outa’ My Hair!

Chlorine Removal Recipe

2 T. coconut oil warmed
5 drops rosemary
5 drops lavender
5 drops geranium
2 drops sandalwood

Shampoo hair once in Thieves Dish Soap (acts as a clarifying shampoo) and then apply the recipe above to damp hair. Mix all ingredients together and massage into hair and scalp. Cover head with shower cap and leave in for 30-45 minutes (sitting under the heat from a Hair Dryer hood can be helpful).

Rinse with cool water and style as usual. If you have oily hair, you may want to use apple cider vinegar instead of coconut oil (this will also help remove buildup). Follow up with your favorite Young Living conditioner.
