How to Make Your Own Vanilla-Mint Lip Balm

Have you ever stopped to think about the fact that you are actually ingesting the lip balm you put on your lips? That could be pretty disturbing when you think about some of the ingredients in most lip balms.

Check out the ingredients in one of the most popular lip balms on the market:

Ingredients: Arachidyl propionate, camphor, carnauba wax, cetyl alcohol, fragrance, isopropyl lanolate, isopropyl myristate, lanolin, light mineral oil, menthol, methylparaben, octyldodecanol, paraffin, phenyl trimethicone, Propylparaben, red 6 lake, saccharin, white wax.

If that’s not an incentive to make your own, I don’t know what is! But even some “natural” lip balms still use synthetic fragrances, dies, and flavorings that could be toxic!

But my recipe is easy, good for you, and great for your lips! And not only is it inexpensive and easy to make, it’s also safe enough to eat (though I don’t recommend taking a bite).

I used to make huge batches of this with my kids for gift giving and people always contacted me later for the recipe, saying it was the best lip balm they had ever used! Even my teen aged son begs me to make it for him. If you want, you can make the base ahead and keep it in a jar to melt and use later.

Another great perk is that you can use your choice of pure Young Living essential oils or blends to customize gifts or stocking stuffers! They make great party favors for weddings too!

Young Living has some of the best lip balms – and our favorite has always been their seasonal Vanillamint. So when it’s not available, I make my own!
