The Fine Art of Healing

The “Bone Broth Diet” is a Paleo-style gut healing plan organized by Dr. Kellyann Petrucci that includes a 21-Day jumpstart of healthy fats, fresh whole foods (there’s a list), 2 semi fasting days per week, and lots of rich, nutritious bone broth! I discovered this plan while looking for ways to heal my leaky gut 4 years ago.

I had researched the GAPS diet and was overwhelmed by how complicated and limiting it sounded. We travel some, and we’re also a fairly “foodie” family, so GAPS sounded torturous to me!
While searching, I found a book called the Bone Broth Diet. I already held to a pretty “clean” diet, and I had been eating gluten free for several years. I knew all about bone broth from reading Nourishing Traditions years ago, and I loved it! Also, I had already stuck my big toe in the water with Paleo foods and was seeing results, so it sounded like a good fit for me.

So, I ordered The Bone Broth Diet by Dr. Kellyann Petrucci from Amazon (only $2.99 for the Kindle version HERE) and read the whole thing in one day. As I prepared my menu for getting started, my husband, James, decided he wanted to do it with me. I was thrilled because I knew he could use it too, and it would also be much easier to do as a couple! It turned out to be true, and the whole experience was awesome—even bonding!

It also wound up being a great fit with our already-healthy lifestyle of essential oils, toxin-free living, and creative whole food eating (the foodie life!)! My precious friend and fellow-essential oil enthusiast, Tonya Chapa, also jumped on board and experienced the same great results!

Some of you have already read the testimony I wrote HERE about my whole-body transformation and how I gained my health back between 2014-2016. It was a consistent process of detoxing, healing, and finally retraining my eating habits for good, in January of 2016. I feel better and healthier in my fifties than I did in my forties!

A paleo-style whole food diet, nourishing bone broth, sunshine, deliberate stress reduction, food-based supplements, therapeutic grade essential oils, detoxing my home and body, NingXia Red, the Psalms, financial relief, some healthy “down time,” and a focus on the simpler things in life were all part of the changes God used to direct me to a healthier lifestyle! And what a difference it has made!

If you’re sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and if you’re ready to be healed from the inside out, read my testimony HERE and see if any of this sounds familiar. Or tag a friend who you think these changes may help. And let me know if you’d like to chat about it. I’m here to help!

A little about the benefits of bone broth:

Bone broth contains many healing compounds. Bones and connective tissue contain a storehouse of beneficial proteins, collagen, and gelatin, which most people know is great for skin, hair, and nails! But did you know it’s also gut healing and super beneficial for people with arthritis?

By simmering these bones for a few days (or pressure cooking about 2-3 hours in an Instant Pot), you also release glutamine, proline, and glycine into your broth. You just don’t get this from skinless, boneless chicken breasts! This is healing for so many of our body’s functions.

Bone broth contains easily absorbed minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sulphur, chondroitin sulfate, and trace minerals.

Not only that but in bone broth, these minerals are present in forms that are easily absorbed by your body. This is why it’s the perfect food for pregnant moms and/or someone in healing mode!

Bone broth is high in protein. We all know how important protein is for us, and bone broth is a fantastic way to get it. It’s also why it’s a perfect addition to a paleo or ketogenic type diet!

Bone broth contains around 10 grams of protein per 1 cup of commercially prepared bone broth, and even perhaps more in homemade broth where you can add extra bones!

Glucosamine is found in bones, cartilage, and the shells of fish. It helps to slow the deterioration of cartilage, relieves osteoarthritis (OA) pain, and improves joint mobility, while maintaining lean muscle mass.

If you’ve ever noticed the way bone broth “gels,” that’s the collagen that has been released from the bones. It’s also a sign of a high-quality broth! Google everything collagen is good for! “Bone” Appétit!

Olive EssentialsHydroxytyrosol, a polyphenol found in olive oil, is one of the most powerful antioxidants found in nature! It’s one of the key healthy-promoting compounds of the Mediterranean diet, making it a darling of the Keto crowd.

Last year, after finding a proprietary process that extracts hydroxytyrosol from olives using water, Young Living released a supplement called Olive Essentials! Each capsule of Olive Essentials contains 20 mg of hydroxytyrosol—that’s as much as an entire liter of olive oil!

Take 1 capsule every day to support your body during your weight loss efforts, as well as to support a healthy heart and immune system!

Olive Essentials also includes a blend of essential oils with antioxidant properties, including Parsley and Rosemary oil!

Comfortone – This powerhouse is the second supplement Gary Young formulated for Young Living and it’s a must for your gut-healing efforts! When starting a keto-style diet, some people experience a little irregularity at first. Comfortone helps to move things along nicely! (Not usually recommended during pregnancy, though some people disagree and have used it with no problem).

Sleep Essence – A good night’s sleep is essential, so if you need a little extra help, make sure you have this gem on hand!

I also recommend:

  • Life 9 (Young Living or Carlson Labs)
  • ICP (Young Living)
  • Detoxzyme (Young Living)
  • Vitamin D (Ortho Molecular)

Note: Stevia does not raise blood sugars levels. It’s a completely natural sweetener extracted from the leaves of the plant species Stevia rebaudiana. Because of this, and because of the important nutritional benefits of NingXia Red, Stevia is allowed unless you are trying to “break” your craving for sweetness.
